Geely Holding Group said on Tuesday it has formally launched its new strategic partnership with Renault in Brazil, marking the start of operations for their new joint venture, Renault Geely do Brasil. The companies held a ceremony at Renault’s Ayrton Senna industrial complex, signalling a shift from planning to execution as they accelerate their new-energy vehicle (NEV) strategy in South America.
The joint venture plans to invest 3.8 billion Brazilian reais (about 5.1 billion yuan) to introduce NEV platforms and new models into local production. The investment is expected to boost capacity utilisation at the industrial park and strengthen Geely’s position as it expands its NEV footprint across Latin America.
Under the investment roadmap, the venture will localise production of two models based on Geely’s GEA architecture, with market launch scheduled for the second half of 2026. The partners also plan to jointly develop a new NEV technology platform, with Renault set to introduce a model built on the new system in 2027.
Renault will bring its long-established manufacturing base and extensive sales network in Brazil, while Geely contributes its NEV technologies and model portfolio. The companies have already gained momentum in the market through Renault’s distribution of Geely’s EX5 and EX2 (Xingyuan) models, which have begun to attract Brazilian buyers.
The partners plan to build a broader local ecosystem covering production, supply-chain operations, sales and aftersales support to reinforce long-term growth.
The Brazil venture marks the latest expansion of the Geely-Renault partnership, following cooperation in South Korea and the creation of their global powertrain company, HORSE Powertrain. The companies say the initiative will support sustainable growth in Brazil and wider Latin America as competition in the NEV sector intensifies.
