Geely Auto’s Geely Galaxy brand has unveiled the Cruiser 700, its first rugged off-road sport utility vehicle, as the automaker expands into China’s growing market for high-performance adventure vehicles.
The Cruiser 700 made its official debut in China on Friday and is scheduled to go on sale later this year. Following its domestic introduction, the vehicle will be showcased in Milan, Italy, on July 26 as part of Geely Galaxy’s international promotion.
Rugged Design Meets Plug-In Hybrid Power
The Cruiser 700 adopts a traditional off-road design, featuring a boxy exterior, full-width daytime running lights, an illuminated Geely Galaxy badge and vertically arranged rear taillights.
The SUV also includes a side-hinged tailgate, an externally mounted spare tire and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor that supports advanced driver-assistance functions.
The vehicle measures 5,085 millimeters in length and 1,999 millimeters in width, with three available height configurations and a wheelbase of 2,900 millimeters.
Inside, the cabin combines a large floating infotainment display and a full-width digital instrument panel with physical controls, including an aircraft-style gear selector and a rotary drive-mode controller.
The five-seat SUV is equipped with features such as a concealed roll cage, an 18.5-liter onboard refrigerator and more than 100 factory-developed accessories designed for off-road use.
High-Performance Electrified Drivetrain
The Cruiser 700 is powered by a tri-motor, four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system paired with locking differentials.
Geely Galaxy said the system delivers a combined output of 830 kilowatts (1,113 horsepower), providing a power-to-weight ratio of 392 metric horsepower per ton.
According to the company, the SUV offers strong acceleration and sustained climbing performance in challenging terrain, including desert environments.
Geely Galaxy said the Cruiser 700 delivers the highest power-to-weight ratio among mass-produced off-road vehicles and the highest combined system output of any production plug-in hybrid off-road SUV.
All versions are equipped with a 47.14-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL, providing a claimed electric-only driving range of between 165 and 185 kilometers.
Advanced Off-Road Technology
The vehicle incorporates Geely’s in-house Geely Vehicle Motion Control (GVMC) system, which the company said enables the Cruiser 700 to complete the moose test at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
Its AI-controlled four-wheel-drive system can automatically switch between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive depending on driving conditions.
Additional capabilities include crab-walk mode, tank turns, continued driving following a tire blowout and automatic obstacle avoidance.
The SUV also offers a maximum wading depth of 800 millimeters and supports satellite communication functions.
Expanding Presence in China’s Off-Road Market
The Cruiser 700 enters a rapidly expanding segment where Chinese manufacturers have introduced a growing number of electrified off-road vehicles.
Automakers including BYD and GWM have already expanded their offerings in the category as demand for rugged SUVs continues to increase.
For Geely Galaxy, the new model represents an important addition to its lineup as the brand seeks to regain sales momentum after a slower growth pace this year. The Cruiser 700 is expected to strengthen Geely Galaxy’s position in China’s increasingly competitive premium off-road vehicle market.
