GAC Aion, the subsidiary of GAC Group specializing in new energy vehicles (NEVs), has achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing expectations once again. The company reported that it sold an impressive 45,003 vehicles in May, marking the third consecutive month of surpassing the 40,000-unit milestone. This represents a staggering increase of 113.73 percent compared to the same period last year when sales reached 21,056 vehicles. Furthermore, it signifies a solid growth of 9.73 percent from April’s sales figure of 41,012 units.
Throughout the first five months of this year, GAC Aion has experienced exponential growth, with a total of 166,323 vehicles sold. This remarkable figure represents a notable surge of 118.44 percent compared to the same period in the previous year when sales stood at 76,142 units. The exceptional performance of GAC Aion can be attributed to the strong demand for their Aion series, which caters to the mass market. The series includes the Aion S sedan, priced between RMB 139,800 (approximately USD 19,690) and RMB 172,800.
GAC Aion has made significant strides in expanding its market presence and diversifying its offerings. On September 15, 2022, the company made headlines with the introduction of its premium brand, Hyper, along with its flagship model, the Hyper SSR supercar, designed to cater to the high-end market segment. The Hyper SSR comes in two versions, with the standard model priced at RMB 1.286 million. It boasts an impressive acceleration time of 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds. The upgraded version, known as the Hyper SSR Ultimate, carries a price tag of RMB 1,686,000 and can achieve the same acceleration feat in a mind-boggling 1.9 seconds.
As the fastest accelerating car on the planet, the Hyper SSR garnered significant attention and is set to enter mass production and be delivered to customers starting in October 2023, according to GAC Aion. The brand’s second model, the Hyper GT sedan, is also generating excitement among automotive enthusiasts. Pre-orders for this electric vehicle commenced on April 16, offering a price range of RMB 219,900 to RMB 339,900. Notably, GAC Aion is implementing an innovative leasing model, similar to that of NIO, allowing customers to reduce the purchase price of the vehicle by RMB 70,000 in exchange for a monthly rental fee of RMB 980.
Positioned as an all-electric mid-to-large-size coupe, the Hyper GT boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 4,880 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,910 mm. Although an official launch date for the Hyper GT has not been announced yet, anticipation is building among eager consumers.
GAC Aion’s remarkable sales figures and its innovative product lineup, including the Aion series and the upcoming Hyper models, solidify the company’s position as a key player in the rapidly growing NEV market. As they continue to make strides in the electric vehicle industry, GAC Aion is poised to shape the future of sustainable transportation.
