In an electrifying move, Fuso’s latest rendition of the eCanter is poised to make waves in one of its vital markets in South America. After its grand unveiling in September 2022, the reimagined eCanter is primed to hit the Chilean market later this year, igniting a new era of sustainable transport solutions.
With eager anticipation, domestic customers were introduced to the revamped eCanter at a riveting event held on August 17. The upcoming eCanter lineup in Chile will comprise five distinct variants, spanning a weight range from 6.5 to 8.55 tonnes in gross vehicle weight (GVW). This comprehensive range is tailored to cater to diverse business demands, with a selection of body applications available. Furthermore, the innovative electric vehicle will offer three battery options, furnishing drivers with a remarkable driving range of up to 200 kilometers on a solitary charge.
Embarking on its production journey in May, the modernized eCanter started rolling off the assembly lines at Fuso’s production facility situated in Tramagal, Portugal. This milestone came on the heels of the vehicle’s resplendent introduction in late 2022. A twist in the tale unfolded as Daimler and Toyota decided to merge Fuso with the pioneering electric truck manufacturer, Hino Trucks. Yet, the intricacies of this union are still unraveling, with a statement affirming, “Details regarding the amalgamation’s scale, essence, nomenclature, location, equity distribution, and corporate framework will be delineated over the upcoming 18 months.” One certainty is that the two formidable entities are charting a course to finalize their agreement by the first quarter of 2024, aiming to consummate the transaction’s culmination by the year’s end.
