The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom electric speedboat set a new speed record at the 12th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, winning the Open Sea class with an average speed of 49.84 knots (92.3 km/h). Developed jointly by Porsche and Austrian boat builder Frauscher, the high-performance electric boat is powered by technology from the fully electric Porsche Macan Turbo.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge serves as a platform to promote emission-free marine propulsion, testing electric drive systems in real-world conditions. Competing in the Speed category—where the average speed over two one-kilometre runs determines performance—the 850 Fantom outpaced all rivals, underscoring both efficiency and engineering prowess. The vessel’s drive system, battery, and control unit were supplied by Porsche as pre-assembled modules, while Frauscher handled final assembly at its facility in Ohlsdorf, Austria.
“We are very proud that we were able to show the full potential of the Frauscher x Porsche as part of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge,” said Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Bootswerft. “This success not only underlines the boat’s technical innovation, but also marks an important milestone in the development of electric propulsion solutions in the maritime sector.”
Jörg Kerner, Vice President of the Product Line Macan, added: “We are very happy about the success at the event. It proves that Porsche E-Performance enables top performance not only on the road, but also on the water.” With an output of up to 400 kW and DC fast charging capability up to 270 kW, the electric sports boat combines Frauscher’s classic 858 Fantom hull design with Porsche’s 800-volt electric architecture to deliver both style and performance on the water.
