Ford has announced its newest addition to its commercial electric vehicle lineup with the unveiling of the 2023 E-Transit Courier. This compact van is Ford’s smallest electric commercial vehicle, set to hit European markets in 2024. The Courier’s design is bigger than its internal combustion-engined predecessor in every way, including a more expansive load capacity. The Courier can now fit two Euro pallets for the first time, with a width between the rear arches measuring 48 inches (1,220 millimeters).
The all-new 2023 E-Transit Courier boasts a total cargo volume of 102.4 cubic feet (2.9 cubic meters), marking a 25 percent increase over the outgoing model. It can carry a maximum payload of 1,543 pounds (700 kilograms) and a maximum towing weight of 1,653 lbs (750 kg). Notably, the Courier features a load-through bulkhead feature, allowing drivers to transport long items such as pipes or planks over 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) long.

Inside, the compact electric van is equipped with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch center touchscreen running Ford’s latest Sync 4 system. Standard features include wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, as well as a built-in modem for wireless software updates and connectivity with the Ford Pro ecosystem. Customers can also opt for an optional bundle that comes with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering and Stop & Go, Blind Spot Information System, Intersection Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist.
The E-Transit Courier is powered by a 100-kilowatt front-mounted electric motor and a yet-to-be-detailed battery pack. Charging can be done via a DC fast charger at up to 100 kW, adding 54 miles (87 kilometers) of range in 10 minutes. Alternatively, charging can be done via an 11-kW AC domestic charger, fully replenishing the battery in 5.7 hours. Customers can schedule charging times to take advantage of cheaper overnight energy prices via the in-vehicle touchscreen or depot software.

Ford will offer an optional Office Pack that includes a foldaway flat work surface and lighting, transforming the vehicle into a mobile workspace. The automaker has also partnered with vehicle security experts at TVL to offer factory-fit lock packs, providing additional security against peel-and-steal attacks.
The all-new E-Transit Courier will be produced by Ford Otosan at the Craiova factory in Romania, where the Ford Puma crossover is also manufactured. Initially, the Courier will be available with gasoline and diesel engines, with the all-electric version following in 2024. The Courier will be available in both van and double-cab-in-van body styles. One year of complimentary access to the BlueOval Charge Network, including around 500,000 public chargers by 2024, is included with each purchase.
