Ford Motor said it is preparing a next-generation version of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup featuring an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain, as the automaker looks to build on the model’s role in supporting its U.S. electric vehicle sales.
The company said production of the current F-150 Lightning will end later this year, with the next-generation F-150 Lightning EREV to be assembled at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford did not disclose a launch date or detailed specifications, saying further information will be shared at a later stage.

“The F-150 Lightning is a groundbreaking product that demonstrated an EV pickup can still be a great F-Series,” said Doug Field, Ford’s chief EV, digital and design officer. He said the next-generation Lightning EREV would retain electric driving characteristics such as near-instant torque while adding a high-power generator that enables an estimated range of more than 700 miles, improving towing capability and long-distance usability.
Ford said the new model is intended to expand the capabilities of the Lightning lineup, combining battery-electric driving for daily use with extended range for towing and cross-country travel.

The F-150 Lightning is currently the best-selling electric pickup in the United States and has played a role in Ford’s recent EV sales growth. The company said the next-generation model is designed to reinforce the broader F-Series lineup by offering electric benefits alongside range and reliability suited to traditional pickup use cases.
Ford has not specified how the transition from the current Lightning to the EREV version will be managed, or how the new model will be positioned alongside other electrified pickups in its portfolio.
