Flux Mobility, a Swiss developer of light electric commercial vehicles, has won a significant order from the Basel professional fire brigade for eight electric vans and emergency vehicles. This order follows an intensive testing phase, during which the fire brigade trialed a Flux vehicle, ultimately leading to the decision to expand their fleet with Flux electric vehicles.
The initial trial vehicle, a fully electric all-wheel-drive vehicle designed for rescues from heights and depths, was delivered to the Basel professional fire brigade in mid-August 2023. The success of this vehicle paved the way for Flux to secure the order for eight additional all-electric fire service vehicles, each equipped with different specifications to meet the brigade’s diverse needs.
Flux Mobility made its entry into the industry in May 2023 with an electric transporter based on the MAN eTGE, featuring a modular platform concept. The vehicle boasts a maximum output of 190 kW and a battery capacity of 112 kWh, providing a “real range” of 320 kilometers. With charging capacities of 22 kW AC and 100 kW DC, a payload of up to 2,500 kilograms, and a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kilograms, Flux vehicles offer versatility and performance.
The customised solutions for the Basel professional fire brigade vehicles were developed in collaboration with bodybuilder Tony Brändle AG and the customer, ensuring that the vehicles meet the specific needs of the fire service while transitioning to emission-free mobility.
Patrick Sumi, project manager at the Basel professional fire brigade, praised the Flux vehicles, noting their ability to impress during testing, especially with the option of direct power supply. Sumi stated, “Such functions can be a great relief for the task forces, especially in operations with long downtimes.” He also highlighted the close support provided by the Flux teams throughout the testing phase, which allowed for further adaptations and optimizations to meet their needs.
Severin Ganz, Marketing and Sales Manager at Flux Mobility, emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing new technologies and drive concepts. Ganz stated, “The result confirms that together we were able to find an optimal solution for the customer.” The partnership between Flux Mobility, the bodybuilder, and the Basel professional fire brigade exemplifies the potential for innovative solutions in the field of electric commercial vehicles.
