FirstService Residential and SWTCH Energy said they have completed the installation of 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across 85 residential communities in the United States and Canada, providing at-home charging access to more than 45,000 residents. The deployment focuses on major markets including New York, Florida, New Jersey, Ontario and British Columbia.
The partnership, which began in 2020, aims to help condominium and homeowners’ associations meet increasing EV infrastructure needs while maintaining property value and operational reliability. Kelly Dougherty, President of FirstService Energy, said the initiative is designed for adaptability across diverse market conditions. “The deployed systems ensure communities remain competitive while supporting scalable energy management for HOAs,” Dougherty said.
The charging network integrates SWTCH’s hardware and management software, allowing real-time monitoring and optimization of energy usage without compromising existing building electrical systems. Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH, highlighted that the installations demonstrate the importance of comprehensive EV charging solutions. “The system allows properties to leverage existing grid infrastructure efficiently, deploying cost-effective networks while minimizing the need for expensive electrical upgrades,” Li said.
The rollout reflects the increasing demand for residential EV charging as adoption grows, particularly in multifamily housing where access to home charging is becoming an essential amenity. The project supports FirstService Residential’s strategy to modernize communities and provide future-ready infrastructure aligned with evolving automotive trends.
