First Hydrogen, a company specializing in hydrogen technology for the automotive and energy industries, has unveiled the design for its new generation of zero-emission vans. Working with EDAG Group, a leading developer of concept cars and prototypes, First Hydrogen tasked the global mobility engineers with creating a design and styling for its light commercial vehicles.
The first images of the Generation II vans showcase a smart digital panel on the front and vertical tail lights on the rear. The front panel features daytime running lights for improved visibility and a recognizable face, while the rear design accommodates different types of doors for cargo access.
First Hydrogen plans to offer modular vehicles that can be customized for a range of applications, including express delivery, construction, emergency services, and more. The Generation I fuel cell electric vehicles are currently undergoing testing and will be placed with UK fleet operators in March 2023 for real-world trials.

The global light commercial vehicle market is projected to reach USD 751.86 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 5.1%. FCEVs, like the ones produced by First Hydrogen, offer benefits such as faster refuelling, longer range, and larger payload capabilities. The Generation II design will reflect this operational flexibility, positioning First Hydrogen as a leader in zero-emission efficiency and progress.
“We’re thrilled to reveal this preview of our next generation of zero emission vehicles. Following the success of our Generation I demonstrator vans that prove our concept and technology capabilities, with this next series of vehicles, our goal is to provide the commercial van market with a complete solution for operational flexibility. This sneak preview indicates the careful consideration that has gone into combining aesthetics with engineering excellence; the vehicle configuration and signature light panels show a solid standout design that is iconic and will be a real head turner.” said Steve Gill, CEO of Automotive for First Hydrogen.
“The pure design of the light panels complement the vehicle’s functional purpose, establishing a First Hydrogen design signature and illuminating the van to improve its visibility for other road users in city and urban landscapes. This is especially important for delivery and roadside assistance vehicles, which need to make regular stops. The clean aesthetic also reflects the vehicles’ zero emission status. We can’t wait to reveal more of the design as we progress on the project.” said Bernat Costa, Design Director at EDAG Spain
