Fiat Quietly Unveils Upcoming Fiat 600e in Vatican Event with Surprise Video Release

In a departure from the usual approach of generating buzz prior to a new model launch, Fiat has taken a discreet route by unveiling the exterior and interior footage of the upcoming Fiat 600e in a release about a Vatican event, deliberately keeping it under wraps.

The accidental reveal of the Fiat 600e occurred in early May when the vehicle was spotted undisguised during the shooting of press footage. Subsequently, an official video provided a more extensive look at the car, showcasing its exterior from different angles and offering glimpses of the interior. As expected, the small SUV embraces the distinctive styling cues of the 500 family while introducing new elements such as the distinctive “eyelashes.”

Inside, the dashboard boasts a clean and minimalist design, featuring a round-shaped digital instrument cluster and a prominent freestanding infotainment display.

Despite the presence of “600” emblems on the body, the small SUV will officially be named the 600e. This naming convention aligns with the Fiat 500e hatchback, emphasizing its fully electric powertrain. It’s important to note that the Fiat 600e is not intended to replace the slightly larger 500X model. Rumors suggest that the 500X may transition to the compact segment in its next generation, indicating separate positioning within Fiat’s vehicle lineup.

Fiat has chosen to remain tight-lipped regarding specific technical details of the upcoming 600e B-SUV. However, industry speculation suggests that the vehicle will share its platform with the Jeep Avenger and other similarly-sized models within the Stellantis group. It is anticipated that the Fiat 600e will feature a single electric motor generating approximately 154 horsepower (115 kW/156 PS) and 260 Nm (191.8 lb-ft) of torque. Power is likely to be supplied by a 54 kWh battery pack, providing the necessary energy for the electric drivetrain.

Furthermore, reports indicate that the 600e, much like its Jeep Avenger counterpart, may also offer a gasoline engine option in select markets, including Italy. This variant is expected to be equipped with a 100 horsepower three-cylinder 1.2 turbo petrol engine, paired with a manual gearbox.

Fiat’s recently released short film titled “Open Doors” aims to convey messages of “human brotherhood, openness, and inclusion.” The video was created for the World Meeting on Human Fraternity “Not Alone,” which took place on June 10 at St. Peter’s Square and was organized by the Vatican Foundation “Fratelli Tutti.” Fiat sponsored the event and provided an all-electric fleet of vehicles, including the 500e and zero-emission variants of its LCV-based minivans. The 600e was not part of the fleet, as the model has yet to make its official debut.

While Fiat has not officially announced a debut date for the 600e, there are rumors that it could be unveiled on July 4 to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the 500. The availability of the 600e in markets outside of Europe, particularly the United States, remains uncertain. It is worth noting that the 500e is set to be introduced in the US in 2024, raising the possibility that Fiat may consider expanding the availability of the 600e in the future.
