Ferrari has officially introduced its first all-electric production model, the Luce, to the Chinese market, launching the luxury grand tourer in Shanghai with a starting price of US$586,630.
The debut follows the model’s global premiere in Rome and marks Ferrari’s entry into the battery-electric vehicle segment while maintaining its commitment to internal combustion engine models.
Ferrari Enters the Electric Era
Named Luce, the Italian word for “light,” the new model represents a significant milestone for the Maranello-based manufacturer, which has built its reputation on high-performance petrol-powered sports cars.
The China launch serves as Ferrari’s first test of customer demand for its electric flagship in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
The company emphasized that electrification will complement, rather than replace, its existing lineup of combustion-engine vehicles.
Four-Motor Electric Powertrain
The Luce is powered by four independent electric motors, with two mounted on each axle.
The system delivers a combined output of 772 kW (1,035 hp) and 990 Nm of peak torque.
Ferrari says the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while top speed exceeds 310 km/h.
Energy is supplied by a 122 kWh battery pack operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture.
The vehicle offers a driving range of up to 530 km and supports 350 kW DC fast charging, allowing approximately 70 kWh of energy to be replenished in around 20 minutes.
Design by LoveFrom
Unlike previous Ferrari models, the Luce was designed externally by LoveFrom rather than Ferrari’s in-house styling team.
The design consultancy was co-founded by former Apple Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson.
According to Ferrari, the collaboration was intended to introduce fresh design perspectives inspired by the luxury goods sector.
The interior, led by Ive, focuses on physical controls, minimalist styling and premium materials including glass and aluminium.
Four-Door Grand Tourer
The Luce adopts a four-door, five-seat configuration, making it Ferrari’s first five-seat production vehicle and only its second four-door model.
It measures 5,026 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,544 mm in height, with a 2,961 mm wheelbase.
Its exterior features a distinctive glass canopy, floating aerodynamic wing elements and transparent front and rear lighting integrated into the bodywork.
The circular rear lights pay tribute to classic Ferrari models including the 360 Modena and 458 Italia.
The Luce also introduces the largest wheels ever fitted to a Ferrari production road car, measuring 23 inches at the front and 24 inches at the rear.
Premium Technology
The cabin incorporates four Samsung OLED displays measuring 12.9 inches, 12 inches, 10.1 inches and 6.3 inches.
The steering wheel is manufactured from 100% recycled aluminium as part of Ferrari’s broader sustainability efforts.
Customers can choose from five launch colours, including the exclusive Giallo Luce, a bespoke yellow developed specifically for the model and inspired by Ferrari’s iconic prancing horse emblem.
With the Luce, Ferrari joins a growing number of luxury performance manufacturers expanding into the electric vehicle market while seeking to preserve the driving character and brand identity that define their traditional sports cars.
