Fastned has launched a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Greenock, near Glasgow, aiming to address the shortage of ultra-fast chargers along Scotland’s west coast. The operator described the new site as a “lifeline” for EV drivers in the area, which currently faces limited access to high-speed charging infrastructure.
The Greenock hub features four charging bays centered around two 400kW towers, providing drivers with the ability to gain up to 100 miles of range in just five minutes. While modest in size, the site is designed for quick turnover, and Fastned has indicated potential expansion to eight bays to accommodate future demand. Located off Greenock’s Main Street near the junction with Rue End Street and close to Loch Lomond National Park, the facility includes a solar canopy that powers the chargers entirely from renewable energy sources.
Tom Hurst, UK Country Director of Fastned, said, “We’re delighted to open our fifth charging hub in Scotland, and provide much needed charging in an area with a low number of ultra-rapid chargers. Watch this space as there’s much more to come!”
The Greenock hub is Fastned’s 33rd in the UK and integrates with the company’s broader network, including compatibility with the Spark app. Fastned recently helped establish the Spark Alliance, a partnership among charging operators that offers EV drivers access to over 11,000 chargers across Europe with unified payment options. This move is expected to enhance convenience and accessibility for EV users across multiple regions.
