Farasis Energy, a Chinese battery manufacturer, has introduced its latest innovation, the ‘Standard Electric Motorcycle Battery,’ designed for electric motorcycles. This pouch battery utilizes NCM chemistry and boasts impressive features aimed at revolutionizing the electric motorcycle industry.

One of the key highlights of the ‘Standard Electric Motorcycle Battery’ is its fast-charging capability, allowing it to be charged from ten to 80 per cent within just 15 minutes. Farasis claims that the battery’s energy density is 25 per cent higher than the industry average, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.

Moreover, the battery is designed for an interchangeable system, meaning it can be easily replaced and is not permanently installed in the vehicle. This feature, coupled with its lower weight (0.5 to 2.0 kilograms lighter than current batteries), makes battery pack replacement more convenient. To support this, Farasis has partnered with Singapore-based company Moli to promote battery replacement systems.

The ‘Standard Electric Motorcycle Battery’ is capable of being charged with up to 5C and has a maximum discharge rate of 8C. Farasis states that this enables electric motorcycles to reach speeds of up to 198 kph and accelerate to 100 kph in just 3.3 seconds, although specific models for this performance are not mentioned.

Farasis also emphasizes the battery’s performance at high temperatures, citing a large cell surface area and efficient thermal management that minimize temperature rise during high-power discharges, thereby extending the high-temperature cycle life of the battery. The pouch cells are also claimed to offer a high level of safety.

While the ‘Standard Electric Motorcycle Battery’ is not targeted at the high-powered motorbikes of European manufacturers with engine displacements over one litre, it is aimed at the Southeast Asian market, particularly Indonesia, where it was unveiled at the ‘Asiabike Jakarta 2024’ trade fair. Indonesia is known for being one of the largest two-wheeler markets globally, especially for light motorbikes and scooters.
