After several years of delays, Faraday Future has finally announced that it has begun production of its highly-anticipated FF91 electric vehicle. The production is taking place at its “FF ieFactory California” facility in Hanford, California. This marks a major milestone for the company that was once on the brink of bankruptcy due to its founder’s financial troubles.
The FF91 was first unveiled in 2017, and at the time, it was supposed to go into production in 2018. However, the company faced financial problems due to the founder’s financial issues, and it was not until now that it has finally started production.
The FF91 boasts some impressive specifications, including 1,050 horsepower, a 130 kWh battery, 381 miles of range, and self-driving capability. The car’s 0-60 time of 2.27 seconds is faster than some of the benchmark cars of its time, including Tesla. These specifications were groundbreaking at the time of its initial announcement and remain impressive even after several years of delays.

During a recent livestream, Faraday executives praised the FF91’s luxury, and founder YT Jia even name-dropped Ferrari and Maybach, indicating that the company is positioning itself in the high-value user market. The company has yet to specify the vehicle’s price, but given the FF91’s specifications and luxury features, it’s unlikely to be cheap.
The FF91 has two tiers of pre-orders: the “FF 91 Futurist Alliance” tier, which is currently sold out, and the “FF 91 Futurist” tier, which is still available for $1,500. Faraday received over 64,000 reservations in the first 36 hours after the original announcement. However, the number of paid reservations is relatively modest, with only 401 of them at the time of a recent check-in.
Despite the modest number of paid reservations, Jia claims that “current production capacity falls far behind market demand.” The company plans to open a store in Beverly Hills later this year and will initially focus sales efforts in Los Angeles and San Francisco before expanding to New York, Shanghai, and Beijing.
It’s worth noting that Faraday has had a rocky road to production. The company has gone through several CEOs and financial struggles. However, it’s a testament to the company’s persistence that it has managed to keep the FF91’s specifications intact despite the delays.
The start of FF91 production marks a significant milestone for Faraday Future. While the company has faced challenges along the way, it’s exciting to see its vision of an electric future taking shape. With impressive specifications and a focus on luxury, the FF91 has the potential to compete with some of the biggest names in the luxury EV market. Only time will tell if it can live up to its promises and become a hit with consumers.
