Evri, the British parcel delivery company, has begun operating the DAF XB electric truck at its Southampton depot as part of an “early adopter” program. This program, which is limited to 10 vehicles, represents the final testing phase before mass production of the truck begins in 2025.
By incorporating the DAF XB into its fleet, Evri emphasizes its commitment to expanding its use of electric vehicles and cargo bikes.
The 16-pallet DAF XB truck offers an electric range of up to 300 km and is equipped with high-energy battery packs with a capacity of 282 kWh. During the trial, the truck will undergo real-world testing with regular customer deliveries. The vehicle supports AC charging up to 22kW and DC fast charging up to 150kW, with charging taking place at Evri’s Southampton depot.
Evri’s involvement in this early adopter program highlights its broader sustainability goals. The company is investing 19 million pounds (23 million euros) to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero status by 2025. In addition to adopting the DAF XB, Evri plans to triple the number of electric cargo bikes in its fleet and increase its electric vehicle count by 50%.
Pauline Potter, Evri’s Director of Transformation, noted, “Adopting the new DAF XB Electric ahead of full production demonstrates our commitment to reducing our environmental impact while maintaining operational excellence.”
