The highly anticipated Denza N9 SUV made its debut on November 15 at the Guangzhou Auto Show, showcasing its cutting-edge features and advanced specifications. This flagship vehicle from Denza, part of BYD’s luxury electric vehicle lineup, is available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric versions. While the PHEV variant had been previously previewed via a MIIT listing, the all-electric version’s details were revealed at the event, boasting an impressive 710 kW of total power.
Design and Platform
The Denza N9 is built on the Denza e3 (Yi san fang) platform, a versatile foundation that supports advanced features such as independent rear-wheel steering with dual motors. This platform also incorporates air suspension, promising enhanced handling and a more dynamic driving experience. The vehicle’s design features an enclosed grille and sleek, narrow headlight clusters. Notably, the N9 also includes an upper and lower air intake grille that can open and close, offering functional cooling while maintaining an elegant appearance. A Lidar unit is positioned above the windshield, highlighting the N9’s capability for advanced smart driving, likely integrating BYD’s Eye of the Gods system.
The N9’s body dimensions measure 5,258 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width, and 1,830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. These specifications are for the PHEV variant, with slight variations expected for the all-electric version. Buyers can choose between 21-inch or 22-inch wheels, both of which are complemented by distinctive yellow brake calipers. The PHEV version has a curb weight ranging between 3,130 kg and 3,245 kg, depending on the specific variant.
Powertrain and Performance
The PHEV version of the Denza N9 features a dynamic powertrain with a 200 kW TZ210XYD electric motor on the front axle and a pair of 240 kW TZ220XYAM motors on the rear wheels, delivering a total output of 680 kW. The vehicle is also equipped with a 2.0T BYD479ZQA engine that can produce up to 152 kW. The N9’s lithium iron phosphate Blade battery has a capacity of 47 kWh, providing an all-electric range of 165 km. With these specifications, the PHEV N9 can achieve a top speed of 230 km/h.
The all-electric N9 will incorporate a similar three-motor setup but with slightly more powerful motors, offering a total output of 710 kW. Details regarding the battery pack size remain undisclosed, though it is expected to feature the same Blade battery technology for impressive range and performance.
Interior and Features
While the interior of the Denza N9 remains under wraps for now, with blacked-out windows during the Guangzhou Auto Show display, it is anticipated to follow the design language of the Denza Z9 GT. The Denza N9 is expected to offer a luxurious and high-tech cabin, featuring three rows of seating with a 2 + 2 + 3 layout. The second row will have independent captain chairs, ensuring comfort and style. A standout feature is the three-screen center console, likely providing an intuitive and immersive user interface. Additionally, a heated and cooled storage box adds another layer of convenience for passengers.
Release and Expectations
Although it is still uncertain when the PHEV version of the Denza N9 will hit the market, it is expected to begin sales either later this year or in early 2025. The all-electric version, with its higher performance capabilities, is sure to attract significant attention as BYD continues to lead the way in the electric vehicle market. With its stunning design, powerful performance, and advanced technologies, the Denza N9 is set to make waves in the luxury SUV segment.
