At the Consumer electronic Show 2022, General Motors (GM) showcased its best-selling double cabin pickup in a pure electric (EV) version, namely the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is slated to be produced in 2023 and begin shipping to customers in 2024 to battle the Ford F-150 Lightning or Tesla Cybertruck if Tesla launches it.

Different from the ICE version of the Silverado, the Silverado EV is built with super specifications, so it deserves to be called a super truck. Its combination of specifications, performance and versatility is made beyond the limits of a normal pickup truck for everyday use.

But is it true that the production version will be made the same as the model on display at CES 2022 in terms of performance, of course time will tell.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Design and Storage Practical

The body design of this electric truck is made to produce the lowest drag-coefficient in the pickup segment. So it really considers the aerodynamic factor.

On the sides, you can see the sleek bodywork, boxed fenders and 24-inch wheels, this results in the aerodynamic shape of a giant sedan thanks to the sloping C-pillar.

Since this is an electric car with the powertrain device under the floor, both the front and rear muzzle can be used as luggage space. At the front, the trunk behind the hood is dubbed the eTrunk.

At the rear there is 1,803 mm of storage space with a foldable Multi-Flex center bulkhead, similar to the one on the Chevrolet Avalanche. This makes it possible to expand the storage space into the cab.

With the tailgate closed and the bulkhead open, the Silverado EV is capable of hauling goods over 2.74 meters (9 feet). If there is enough room, the Multi-Flex back cover can be lowered to provide up to 3.3 meters of space.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Interior

The Silverado EV RST features an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17-inch infotainment system Head Unit integrated into the connected head-up device, and the seats are upholstered in two-tone leather with red accents.

The steering wheel is made with a flat bottom, column-mounted shifters and minimalistic digital air conditioning controls.

As for the WT trim or the pickup version for workers, the interior is made in a monotone color with a digital instrument cluster and separate infotainment systems on the two head-up devices.

The rear seats are heated with ample legroom, which according to Chevrolet can comfortably accommodate people up to 1.83 cm tall.

In addition, the modular center console has a capacity of more than 31.8 liters, which is also equipped with cooling features so that it is like a refrigerator in the cabin.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Specifications

The Silverado EV RST type will be equipped with an All Wheel Drive drive system with two motors producing 664 hp (673 PS) and up to 1,056 Nm of torque.

While the Silverado EV WT will have power up to 510 hp (517 PS) and 834 Nm of torque. Both will have a range of 644 km on a single charge until the battery is full.

The Chevrolet EV RST will be equipped with a Wide Open Watts mode, which enables a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) performance in under 4.5 seconds.

Both RST and WT types will come with trailer towing features, integrated trailer brake controller, Tow/Haul mode, and Hitch Guidance system. The RST will be given Chevrolet’s advanced trailer system, which is currently available on the most expensive version of the Silverado ICE.

The fleet version of the Chevy (WT) truck will initially have a towing capacity of 3,629 kg, but Chevrolet will offer a max tow package that can increase towing capacity by up to 9 tonnes.

Range and Battery

The Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition will be equipped with an All Wheel Steering system and Adaptive Air Suspension (adaptive air suspension) that can increase or decrease ground clearance by up to 2 inches (5 cm).

The most expensive model will also be equipped with the trailer-friendly Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, which will allow hands-free operation on more than 200,000 miles (321,869 km) of autonomous technology-qualified roads in the United States and Canada.

The 350 kW DC fast charge system allows the electric truck to add about 100 miles (161 km) of range on a charge in just 10 minutes.

Regarding charging, this car will be equipped with a car-to-car charging feature to help stranded cars away from charging stations.

In addition, there is also a power outlet feature of up to 10 points for power tools which will be very useful when camping.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Production plan

The production version of the Silverado EV will arrive in the spring of 2023 with a field version of the WT variant that focuses on a fleet of workers’ operational cars. Meanwhile, the Silverado EV RST First Edition will be launched in the fall of 2023.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Price

The Silverado EV WT as the entry-level variant will be priced starting at $39,900. Furthermore, there will be additional variants with a combination of features including Trail Boss.

The price range will vary around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 and more depending on the different battery and powertrain combinations.

American consumers can already start reserving the Silverado EV even though the electric truck won’t be in production for 2022. The order is facilitated online on the official website of the manufacturer.
