The European Commission will initiate a strategic dialogue on the future of the automotive industry, bringing together industry leaders, social partners, EU commissioners, and stakeholders to address challenges and propose solutions.
The dialogue, announced by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen following her re-election, begins Tuesday, with von der Leyen pledging to lead the discussions personally.

The dialogue will involve regular meetings and thematic working groups focused on issues such as innovation, clean transition and decarbonization, competitiveness, trade relations, and regulatory simplification.
The initiative underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the sector’s long-term competitiveness while advancing climate goals and societal objectives. Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas has been tasked with developing an action plan informed by these discussions.
The automotive sector is undergoing significant transformation, driven by digitalization, decarbonization, heightened competition, and evolving geopolitical factors. The shift toward electric vehicles (EVs) and growing competition from Chinese manufacturers are expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
The Commission aims to engage stakeholders across the value chain to develop actionable solutions for a sustainable and resilient future for European automakers.
