The European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO) has released its first-ever dataset on public charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles across the European Union, reporting a total of 1,512 charging stations currently in operation.
Of these, 1,369 locations are designated for mixed use—serving both heavy and light commercial vehicles—while 143 stations are exclusively available for heavy-duty vehicles. EAFO’s data focuses on charging stations rather than individual recharging points, a distinction that may refer to entire charging sites with multiple outlets.

Germany leads the EU with 479 stations, followed by Sweden (278), the Netherlands (246), Denmark (158), and France (101). For locations serving only heavy-duty vehicles, Sweden tops the list with 42, ahead of France (37), Germany (21), the Netherlands (19), and Belgium (15). EAFO notes that since the number of heavy-duty charging stations remains limited, new projects by major operators such as Milence can significantly influence national totals.
The observatory sources its data through Eco-Movement, which compiles and verifies information directly from charging point operators to ensure compliance with EU standards. Only publicly accessible stations are included, while private depots and fleet-only sites are excluded from the dataset.

EAFO said the data will be updated monthly, with new figures published in the middle of each month. The first update, covering October, is scheduled for November 15. According to the agency, this newly launched dataset will serve as the foundation for future reports, without retroactive inclusion of historical records.
