The European Commission has greenlit funding for IPCEI Hy2Move, a project aimed at supporting 13 innovative hydrogen projects across seven EU member states. These projects will receive up to 1.4 billion euros in public funding, with an expected additional 3.3 billion euros in private investments.
IPCEI Hy2Move, jointly prepared by Germany, Estonia, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Spain, will focus on research, innovation, and various aspects of the hydrogen technology value chain.
The approved projects include developments in fuel cell vehicle platforms for buses and trucks, high-performance fuel cell technologies for ships and locomotives, on-board storage solutions for air travel, and producing pure fuel-cell-grade hydrogen for refueling stations.
“All 13 projects part of the IPCEI are highly ambitious, as they aim at developing technologies and processes that go beyond current technology and will allow major improvements notably in the areas of mobility and transport applications, fuel cells, on-board hydrogen storage and generation of hydrogen for the use in mobility and transport,” the Commission stated.
Companies such as Airbus, BMW, HydrogĂšne de France, Skeleton, and Tomark are among the recipients of funding. IPCEI Hy2Move is the fourth IPCEI for promoting hydrogen and complements previous initiatives like ‘ICEI Hy2Tech,’ approved in July 2022, ‘IPCEI Hy2Use,’ and ‘IPCEI Hy2Infra,’ approved in September 2022 and February 2024, respectively.
