Each class of motorcycle certainly has its own mainstay. The Suzuki GSX-Rs is a “legendary” bike wrapped in a fairing, while Ducati is a pioneer for sporty and racing style bikes that are unique in their frame. As for touring motorcycles, the BMW GS is certainly superior.
But for the latter class it looks like there will be a new competitor, because Energica has been making performance-oriented electric motorcycles since 2014. The launch of the latest Experia, a full-faired touring motorcycle that has a relatively high seating position, can be compared to the GS or Ducati. Multistrada.
Powered by a 306-volt permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, the Experia is capable of producing up to 102 horsepower and 85 to 664 lb-ft of torque, which is charged via a 22.6 kWh lithium-polymer battery. Energica claims a range of 261 miles, although the Modena (Italy) based company clarified that a combined driving range of 160 miles is more realistic. As a testament to the adventure tour class, Energica has equipped the Experia with Level 2 and DC fast charging compatibility. A fast charge rate of four miles per minute allows the battery to be 80% charged in just 40 minutes.
Under the parent company CRP Group, Energica was born with a racing “pedigree” from the days of CRP Racing, so handling and braking hardware is always branded and has quality components. The new steel tubular trellis frame and aluminum swingarm make this bike look dashing.
The adjustable ZF Sachs suspension allows adjustment of preload, extension, compression at the front and preload, as well as adjustment to extension at the rear. Brembo is believed to be the flagship brake, with a 330 mm four-piston front disc and a 240 mm two-piston rear disc.
An ABS unit from Bosch comes standard, allowing the onboard computer to take the angle of inclination into account when calculating antilock intervention. This system will be very helpful if the driver is driving off the track. Weighing in at 573 pounds, this bike is certainly not light but still very decent as an electric motor.
Talking about the price, Energica priced the Experia around 25,880 US dollars. Then this electric motorbike will be equipped with a hardcase trunk, heated handles, and seats that can be customized according to the rider and passenger which are standard equipment.
