As electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular, the availability of charging stations has become a major concern for EV owners. Tesla has been at the forefront of addressing this issue with its Supercharger network, which was previously exclusive to Tesla vehicles. However, Tesla has now opened its Supercharger network to other EVs, including electric motorcycles, and the first to be spotted charging at a Tesla Supercharger is the Energica Experia.
The Energica Experia is an ADV (adventure touring motorcycle) designed to take on the likes of the BMW R1250 and the Ducati Multistrada, as well as the DSRX from rival electric motorcycle maker Zero Motorcycles. The Experia is Energica’s newest model and boasts a segment-leading battery capacity, a more comfortable upright posture, reliability, immediate torque, and an environmentally friendly nature, making it a top choice for its owner, Kelly.

Kelly, who has owned numerous motorcycles, including electric ones, was drawn to the Experia’s features and was excited to charge it at a Tesla Supercharger. However, Kelly could only draw 7kW at the Tesla Supercharger, which is more than three times slower than his average of mid-20kW at other DC fast charging locations. The reason for this could be that the bike was not yet recognized by the charger or that there was some incompatibility with the bike’s own computer.
Despite the slower charging speed at the Tesla Supercharger, the Energica Experia can still charge from 0-80% in roughly 40 minutes, thanks to its smaller battery and relatively high charging speed considering its form factor. Kelly says he regularly achieves 20-80% in under 30 minutes.

The Energica gained access to the Tesla Supercharging network thanks to its CCS2 connector, which the Tesla Magic Dock now allows customers to charge with. This move has divided opinions within the EV community, with some expressing concerns that the Tesla Supercharger network will become overcrowded and inaccessible for Tesla owners. However, many view Tesla’s move as necessary to further EV adoption, particularly in the United States, where charging anxiety is still a significant barrier for EV adoption.
The Energica Experia charging at a Tesla Supercharger is a significant milestone for both electric motorcycles and the EV industry as a whole. It demonstrates the increasing interoperability of charging networks and the growing adoption of EVs, which will ultimately lead to a more sustainable future.
