Enel X Way Plans to Install 10,000 Public Charging Stations and 2 Million EV Charge Ports by 2030 in North America

Enel X Way, a subsidiary of the global renewable energy company Enel Group, has announced its plan to install over 10,000 DC public charging stations and at least 2 million home, commercial, and public EV charge ports across North America by 2030. The company already caters to the home and commercial charging segments and plans to expand into the public charging market.

The deployment of over 10,000 DC public charging stations will be in support of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which has allocated $5 billion to the states to create an interconnected network of DC fast chargers along the National Highway Systems. Enel X Way aims to comply with the NEVI Formula Program, which requires EV charging stations to include at least four ports capable of simultaneously charging four EVs at 150 kilowatts (kW) each, with a total station power capacity of 600kW or more.

The NEVI Formula Program is part of the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into law by US President Joe Biden in November 2021. To facilitate its ambitious EV charge port deployment, Enel X Way is launching new installation, operations and maintenance, and financing services.

Enel X Way’s expansion into the public charging market is a positive step towards accelerating EV adoption and reducing carbon emissions. The availability of public charging infrastructure is crucial in addressing range anxiety and promoting the use of electric vehicles. With the NEVI program’s support, Enel X Way’s deployment of over 10,000 DC public charging stations will contribute to the creation of a robust charging network that can support the growing demand for EVs in North America.
