Elon Musk teases Tesla’s new gigafactory might be in Canada

At Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting, Elon Musk said the company’s Gigafactory could be built in Canada. To note, for the past year, Musk has been talking about the new Tesla Gigafactory.

During a face-to-face meeting, Musk teased the crowd by asking the supposed location of the next Gigafactory. After many different locations were shouted out, Musk said:

“We got a lot of Canada. I am half Canadian, maybe I should?” said Elon Musk

Musk himself was born in South Africa to a Canadian-born mother.

This isn’t the first time Musk and Tesla have hinted at Canada as the location of the next Gigafactory.

At an employee meeting in June, we saw Musk confirm that the company was looking for a new site in North America for their Gigafactory location.

During the meeting, an employee asked Musk where Tesla’s next US factory would be located.

Musk replied that the company hasn’t confirmed its location yet, but he determined that it might not be in the US:

As per reporting at the time, Musk said:

“We are looking at sites, but we are considering some sites options more broadly in North America, so including Canada and Mexico, and the US as well.” said Elon Musk
