Electrogenic, an EV conversion specialist hailing from the United Kingdom, has once again taken center stage with its latest accomplishment: the transformation of a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II into a fully-fledged electric vehicle (EV). Regarded as the company’s most intricate conversion to date, this remarkable endeavor seamlessly marries the elegance of the past with the sustainability of the future.
Electrogenic has made a name for itself by breathing new life into classic automobiles through its in-house developed electric technology. While its sphere of influence has extended across the Atlantic to the United States, the heart of the company remains loyal to its British origins. Renowned for electrifying iconic vehicles like Land Rover Defenders and Series 1s, Electrogenic has consistently pushed the boundaries of automotive electrification.

The highlight of the company’s recent feats was the successful conversion of a 1960s Jaguar E-Type into an EV, a venture that skillfully amalgamated the timeless aesthetics of yesteryears with the state-of-the-art, emission-free technology of the modern era. However, Electrogenic’s ambitions did not stop there.
Breaking new ground, Electrogenic has taken an unprecedented step into automotive antiquity, revamping the historic Rolls-Royce Phantom II into an electrifying masterpiece. This one-of-a-kind EV was custom-crafted for an environmentally-conscious private collector, adding an extra layer of distinction to its already remarkable tale. The world caught its first glimpse of this groundbreaking creation at the prestigious Salon Privé, a distinguished end-of-summer automotive event in the UK where luxury and high-performance vehicle developers converge to showcase their latest triumphs.

Reflecting on the historic significance of the Phantom II, Electrogenic revealed that a mere 1,681 units of this illustrious model were crafted by Rolls-Royce between 1920 and 1935. Now, a singular Phantom II boasts the incorporation of Electrogenic’s cutting-edge EV technology. The heart of this electric marvel resides in a 93 kWh battery pack ingeniously integrated within the vehicle’s original architecture, all without compromising the structural integrity of the car. This battery powers a solitary electric motor strategically positioned between the chassis rails, engaged through a bespoke single-speed direct-drive transmission. The result is an impressive 150 kW power output and 310 Nm of torque.
Despite the Phantom II’s aerodynamic challenges, with a drag ratio nearing 1, Electrogenic’s EV technology manages to achieve up to 150 miles of real-world driving range—a testament to the seamless fusion of heritage and innovation.
The conversion process itself was not without its hurdles, considering the vintage of the model, which is approaching a century since its inception. Electrogenic’s Director, Steve Drummond, shared insights into the arduous yet triumphant journey of this historic conversion, which spanned 18 months and involved a dedicated team of exceptional engineers, programmers, and fabricators.

The astonishing outcome is a true testament to their exceptional skills. With immense pride, we present this masterpiece at Salon Privé, hosted within the regal confines of Blenheim Palace—a fitting backdrop for showcasing British motoring heritage, now thoughtfully modernized and poised for a century of clean and serenely quiet electric motoring.”
