Electrogenic Introduces Plug-and-Play Electric Conversion Kit for Classic Porsche 911s

Electrogenic, a British company specializing in electric vehicle conversions, has recently announced the release of its plug-and-play kit for classic Porsche 911s. The kit, called the E62 911 package, is designed to make electromodding easier and more accessible for any mechanic. The company has already delivered the first customer example, which started life as a 1985 G-Body 911 but was backdated to look like the 2.7 RS.

The E62 911 package includes a cutting-edge electric powertrain that delivers 215 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to get the car off the line and up to 60 mph in just five seconds. For those who want more power, the E62s version provides 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, allowing the car to reach 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

The kit comes with 62 kWh of batteries located where the car’s original gas tank would have gone, allowing the converted 911s to travel between 180 and 200 miles on a single charge. The car can be recharged in about 50 minutes. The added weight of the batteries and componentry is about 220 lbs, but the car now has regenerative braking and several driving modes for city, power-saving, and high-performance driving.

One of the key features of the Electrogenic conversion kit is its reversibility. The original gauges have been retained, and now display information about range and charge speed, while the cabin is also equipped with a discrete electric heater. This allows the car to be changed as little as possible, maintaining its original charm and character.

According to Steve Drummond, Electrogenic’s co-founder, “The delivery of this special 911 marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Electrogenic. The kits enable us to offer our market-leading, ‘plug and play’ EV technology to customers around the globe, and at scale, taking our business to a whole new level.”

The E62 conversion package is not limited to Porsche 911s, as Electrogenic also offers kits for Land Rovers, the Jaguar E-Type, and the Triumph Stag. With the increasing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly vehicles, the Electrogenic conversion kit provides a viable and attractive option for classic car enthusiasts who want to embrace electric mobility.
