Portuguese manufacturer Efacec has introduced its new “Charging Hub” platform, a modular charging solution designed to support charging parks with up to 16 DC charging points and a combined power output of 1.6 MW.
The platform is designed for passenger cars and commercial vehicles and consolidates charging technology, medium-voltage equipment, automation, grid integration and software into a single system. Efacec said the solution was developed entirely in-house to address the charging requirements of vehicle fleets.
Modular Power Configuration
The Charging Hub is built around modular power units with an output of 800 kW. Operators can configure or increase charging capacity according to demand, with power available in 40 kW increments.
The satellite charging units can be equipped with either one or two charging points. Efacec offers configurations with continuous currents of 2x 250 A, 2x 375 A, 2x 500 A or 1x 700 A.
The system also includes an “Active Boost Mode” that can temporarily increase charging currents when additional power is required.
The platform currently uses CCS connectors but has been engineered to accommodate future deployment of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) at 1,000 volts.
From HPC Chargers to Grid Connection
Efacec said the Charging Hub can be supplied as a standalone high-power charging (HPC) unit or as a complete medium-voltage-to-DC solution.
In the integrated configuration, the system combines medium-voltage infrastructure, charging equipment, automation and grid integration. This allows the charging park to be connected to the electrical grid through a single technology platform.
Efacec said the approach reduces the number of interfaces between different suppliers and can simplify the design and deployment of charging infrastructure.
Designed for Fleet Charging
The company is positioning the Charging Hub for fleet operators requiring scalable charging infrastructure. Its modular architecture allows charging capacity to be configured according to current requirements while providing the ability to increase capacity as demand develops.
By combining power electronics, charging satellites, electrical infrastructure and software within one platform, Efacec is targeting charging projects that require both high-power charging and integration with the electrical grid.
