German motorhome manufacturer Dethleffs has unveiled its e.home ECO concept, a fully electric motorhome that demonstrates the potential for sustainable, emission-free travel in the recreational vehicle sector. The vehicle debuted at Caravan Salon 2025 as part of the company’s “Destination Future” initiative, with plans for a production-ready model by 2028.
The e.home ECO is built on the 2023 Ford E-Transit platform and features rear-wheel drive. Its electric motor delivers 135 kW (184 hp) and currently provides a WLTP range of around 240 kilometers (150 miles). Dethleffs aims to increase this to at least 400 kilometers (248 miles) in the production version. The concept’s curb weight is 3,425 kilograms (7,550 pounds).
Energy needs are met without fossil fuels. A rooftop and rear solar system with a nominal output of 1,700 watts powers the interior, while an electric heat pump manages heating, cooling, and ventilation. Cooking is facilitated via an induction hob, and a floor-to-ceiling compressor refrigerator maintains onboard cooling.
The e.home ECO also showcases sustainable materials throughout. Its outer shell is made of flax fiber sandwich panels, insulation comes from recycled PET bottles, and interior surfaces include furniture made from expanded corn, sheep’s wool upholstery, and linoleum flooring with cork content.
As a concept, no pricing has been announced. However, the e.home ECO illustrates the future of eco-conscious motorhome design and may establish new standards for sustainability in the RV industry.
