Denza, the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under BYD, has officially introduced its latest SUV, the Denza N8, to the Chinese market. The new offering comes just a month after the successful launch of their previous SUV model.

The Denza N8 arrives in two versions, both equipped with BYD’s DM-p hybrid system, combining electric power with internal combustion efficiency. The variants include the DM-i version, emphasizing fuel economy, and the DM-p version, focusing on performance, catering to the diverse preferences of consumers.

The two versions of the Denza N8 come in a seven-seat and six-seat configuration, priced at RMB 319,800 ($44,600) and RMB 326,800, respectively. Notably, the pricing overlaps with the July 3 launch of the Denza N7 SUV, which offers six variants with starting prices ranging from RMB 301,800 to RMB 379,800.

Measuring 4,949 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height, the Denza N8 boasts a slightly larger wheelbase of 2,830 mm compared to BYD’s flagship Tang family SUV, which stands at 4,870 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

Under the hood, the Denza N8 is powered by dual electric motors, with the front motor delivering a maximum power of 160 kW, while the rear motor reaches an impressive 200 kW, resulting in a swift acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The model comes standard with a BYD blade battery pack boasting a capacity of 45.8 kWh, offering an NEDC range of 216 km on pure electric power. Additionally, when combining a full tank of fuel and a full battery charge, the model’s range extends up to an impressive 1,030 kilometers.

Interestingly, the launch of the Denza N8 appears to have been expedited from its original schedule. Denza had initially planned to unveil a variant of the Denza D9 MPV on August 5. However, Zhao Changjiang, Denza’s Chief, announced on Weibo on July 28 that they have opted to introduce the Denza N8 alongside the newer D9 model on the same day.

On the same occasion, Denza also launched the DM-i hybrid variant of the D9 MPV, offering a combined range of 965 kilometers at a starting price of RMB 349,800.

Denza’s origins trace back to a 50/50 joint venture between BYD and Daimler, established in February 2011. However, in February 2022, the Daimler brand underwent a rebranding as Mercedes-Benz. During the past year, BYD has increased its stake in Denza to 90 percent, while Mercedes-Benz’s share has been reduced to 10 percent.
