Denza, the premium brand under BYD, unveiled its Z9 sedan on the opening day of the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. The Z9, a companion to the Z9GT hatchback launched in September, is available in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions, starting at RMB 334,800 ($46,320).

The Z9 PHEV comes in three variants priced at RMB 334,800, RMB 364,800, and RMB 414,800, while the BEV variant is offered in two configurations priced at RMB 354,800 and RMB 384,800.

The sedan features slightly different dimensions depending on the variant, with the PHEV measuring 5,235 mm in length and the BEV slightly shorter at 5,180 mm. Both versions share a width of 1,990 mm and a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.

Equipped with BYD’s advanced e3 technology—derived from the ultra-luxury e⁴ architecture—the Z9 delivers impressive performance across both powertrains. The Z9 BEV features a tri-motor setup, with a 230 kW front motor and two 240 kW rear motors, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The PHEV variant combines a 2.0 T engine with a total system output of 152 kW and 325 Nm of torque, achieving the same sprint in 3.6 seconds.

The Z9 BEV is powered by a 100-kWh BYD blade battery, providing a CLTC-certified range of 630 kilometers. The PHEV, meanwhile, utilizes a smaller 38.5-kWh blade battery pack, offering an electric-only range of 201 kilometers and an impressive combined range of 1,101 kilometers when paired with its fuel tank.

“The Z9 reflects Denza’s commitment to blending luxury with cutting-edge technology,” the company said in a statement. Designed on BYD’s Xuanji architecture, the sedan incorporates tri-motor independent drive and dual-motor independent steering for enhanced handling and performance.

Following the launch of the Z9GT hatchback on September 20, Denza continues to expand its Z-series lineup, aiming to capture a growing market for high-performance, premium electric vehicles. The Z9’s introduction further solidifies Denza’s position as a leader in the rapidly evolving new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.
