French sporting and outdoor retailer Decathlon continues to make strides in the global cycling industry with its array of specialized bikes, including the Rockrider for mountain biking enthusiasts, Triban for premium road and commuter biking, and BāTwin for versatile all-purpose cycling. In a bid to redefine the perception of “department store bicycles,” Decathlon has not only been expanding its cycling expertise but also delving into the realm of electric bicycles.
One such notable addition to its lineup is the revamped B’Twin LD 920 E, a model that gained popularity in their collection. Introduced last year as a long-distance touring bicycle (hence the “LD” designation), this latest iteration incorporates cutting-edge technology in the form of an automatic gearbox for a more convenient and effortless riding experience.
Collaborating with the Belgian startup E2 Drives, Decathlon has introduced a novel drivetrain featuring a dual motor system that seamlessly combines 250 watts of electric pedal assistance with a continuously variable gear shifting mechanism. Boasting two motors and eight sensors, this compact system is designed to adapt to rider preferences and ensure a smooth ride by analyzing performance data a staggering 20,000 times per second. Notably, the LD 920 E also houses a robust 702-Watt-hour battery discreetly within its frame’s down tube, providing an impressive range of up to 150 kilometers (approximately 94 miles) on a single charge.
In a bid to cater to urban cyclists’ needs, BāTwin has enriched the LD 920 E with an array of practical technological features. For instance, an integrated GPS tracker enhances security against theft, while real-time riding information is conveniently displayed on the stem’s touchscreen. Riding modes such as Eco, Standard, and Boost can be effortlessly selected to suit varying terrains and preferences. The package is further enhanced with a 30 lux front light and a sturdy luggage rack capable of supporting up to 27 kilograms.
The B’Twin LD 920 E is available in two frame versions and can be acquired through Decathlon’s online store for a price of 2,999 Euros (equivalent to approximately $3,300 USD). This pricing positions the bicycle as an appealing choice for urban commuters seeking a reliable and feature-rich e-city bike that seamlessly integrates technology for a more convenient and enjoyable ride.
