Daimler Buses has delivered ten fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro solo buses to Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB), along with a complete charging infrastructure built in cooperation with its subsidiary Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH.
The 12-metre buses will operate in scheduled service in Bonn, complementing electric vehicles from other manufacturers that are already part of the SWB fleet. The charging infrastructure, which includes ten charging points, was installed at the SWB depot in Friesdorf and will be presented on Aug. 20 by SWB Managing Director Anja Wenmakers and Bonn’s Mayor Katja Dörner.
Daimler Buses assumed overall responsibility for the planning and construction, including civil engineering, cable laying, electrical installation, and the set-up of charging stations. The system features two CCS2 plug-in charging points with charging arms and eight pantograph charging points mounted on a steel traverse. The pantographs lower onto rails installed on bus roofs, allowing up to eight vehicles to charge simultaneously.
Each eCitaro is equipped with five NMC3 battery packs delivering 490 kWh, supporting long ranges. The buses feature SmartCharge technology to extend battery life, as well as onboard systems for ID-based ticketing, passenger counting, and connectivity readiness through the Omniplus On platform.
Safety features include a 360-degree camera system, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, and Preventive Brake Assist 2 with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Traffic Sign Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and driver attention assistance are also standard.
The vehicles can carry over 80 passengers, with accessibility features such as a wheelchair space, manual folding ramp, and tactile handrails. The interiors include 31 seats, antiviral air conditioning, contrasting yellow grab rails, and a video-monitored environment. A 29.4-inch TFT monitor provides passenger information, while 12 dual USB sockets allow device charging.
