DAF Expands Production Capabilities with New Electric Truck Assembly Factory in Eindhoven

DAF announced it has expanded its production facilities with its new electric truck assembly plant. Located in Eindhoven, Netherlands, the construction of this electric truck factory was completed in 18 months.

As reported on the official website on Thursday (19/1/2023), with the completion of the construction of the new electric truck factory, the new generation of DAF XD and XF Electric electric trucks will soon begin production in the 2023 season.

The fully electric vehicle is said to have provided a range of more than 500 km and is emission free which is one of DAF’s important steps in realizing cleaner road transport.

In line with the increasing demand for electric-powered trucks, DAF admits that it estimates that the number of electric trucks that will be produced at its new factory will gradually increase to thousands of electric trucks per year.

“The first DAF XD and XF Electric trucks will roll off the assembly line this spring. DAF expects production to increase to several thousand vehicles per year over the next few years,” said the Dutch truck brand.

DAF’s new factory actually has two assembly lines. Where, battery packs are assembled on the sub-assembly line. Meanwhile, all high-voltage components, including the chassis-mounted electric motor, are assembled on the main assembly line.

As with every DAF vehicle, the XD and XF Electric electric trucks are custom-built to suit each customer’s wishes. Both electric trucks carry battery packs that can be installed in different positions on the chassis depending on customer requirements.

Previously, the DAF XD and XF Electric electric trucks were introduced at the IAA exhibition in Hanover, Germany in September 2022. The two electric trucks are equipped with an electric motor from Paccar Electric which is claimed to be able to generate power from 210 to 480 hp.

DAF also offers a choice of modular battery packs starting from a 210 kWh battery that can provide a range of up to 200 km and a 525 kWh battery that can reach a range of more than 500 km.

In addition, the two DAF electric trucks have also been equipped with the perfect feature for fast battery charging. In fact, the DAF Electric truck’s battery pack can be charged from 0% to 80% in just 45 minutes.

The new DAF XD electric truck represents a new benchmark in the distribution segment thanks to its unparalleled safety and efficiency features and outstanding driver comfort for a commercial vehicle.

Unsurprisingly, the DAF XD series was recently named the ‘International Truck of the Year 2023’, following in the footsteps of the DAF XF, XG and XG+, which were named ‘International Truck of the Year 2022’. The DAF XD and XF Electric electric trucks have bagged advanced features that are similar to the DNA of the DAF XD, XF, XG and XG+ .
