Dutch truck manufacturer DAF has started series production of its XG Electric and XG+ Electric heavy-duty trucks at its Eindhoven facility, marking the latest expansion of the company’s battery-electric vehicle range.
The first production unit, an DAF XG+ Electric tractor, is scheduled for delivery to German logistics provider Hellmold & Plank.

The XG Electric and XG+ Electric models are designed for long-haul transport and share core drivetrain technology with DAF’s XD Electric and XF Electric trucks, which were previously introduced by the company. DAF positions the XG and XG+ models as premium variants within its electric truck portfolio, with differences focused mainly on cab dimensions and interior space.
The vehicles use modular drivetrains equipped with Paccar electric motors delivering up to 350 kW of power. Customers can choose between three and five lithium iron phosphate battery packs, providing total battery capacities ranging from 315 kWh to 525 kWh.

According to DAF, the trucks support charging speeds of up to 325 kW and can achieve driving ranges of up to 500 kilometres depending on configuration. An optional 22 kW onboard AC charger is also available.
The company said customers operating long-haul routes are expected to favour larger battery configurations due to the trucks’ intended use in national and international freight operations.
The XG and XG+ feature larger cab designs than the company’s XF models. DAF said the XG cab is 33 centimetres longer and taller, with up to 12.5 cubic metres of interior space and a standing height of as much as 2.2 metres. The sleeping area includes a bed width of 80 centimetres.

Like other DAF truck series including the XB, XD and XF, the XG and XG+ models are also available with diesel drivetrains. The company said the latest generation of vehicles was developed from the outset to accommodate both electric and conventional powertrains within the same production system.
“The start of production of the XG Electric and XG+ Electric underlines our commitment to offering zero-emission solutions across a broad range of applications,” Harald Seidel, president of DAF Trucks, said in a statement.
“Customers such as Hellmold & Plank demonstrate that our electric trucks are delivering strong efficiency and sustainable performances in everyday logistics operations,” Seidel added.
