German battery cell manufacturer CustomCells has announced a strategic partnership with Austrian battery system specialist Kreisel Electric to develop two custom battery cell designs specifically for off-highway vehicles.

The collaboration will focus on creating a high-energy-density variant and another designed with an optimized cost structure, combining both companies’ expertise to offer solutions tailored for industries such as construction and agriculture.

Philipp Kreisel, Founder and Managing Director of Kreisel Electric, highlighted the goal of the partnership: “The goal of this collaboration is, of course, to identify the best and most optimal cell for future applications. At the same time, we aim to influence cost structures and manufacturing strategies positively.”

CustomCells will leverage its expertise in customized battery cells, while Kreisel brings its experience in delivering complete battery systems and solutions for various sectors, including marine and off-highway vehicles.

Both companies will address several key factors in the project, including supply chain management, material availability, and risk analysis. CustomCells will focus on predicting the electrochemical performance and stability of the new battery designs.

Dr. Dirk Abendroth, CEO of CustomCells, emphasized the company’s readiness for niche markets, saying, “Niche markets, such as off-highway vehicles, are increasingly gaining attention – and CustomCells is in the pole position to lead in this area.” The collaboration aims to deliver batteries with industry-leading performance and safety tailored to specific customer needs.
