Colibri M22: The Lightweight Electric Motorbike Designed for Urban Adventurers

Electric two-wheelers have been gaining popularity across Europe, and with that comes the birth of new and exciting mobility devices that blur the line between e-bike and electric motorcycle. One such device is the Colibri M22, a lightweight electric motorbike designed specifically for city-dwellers with a love for adventure.

The Colibri brand, created by Petre Georgescu, hopes to establish lightweight electric mobility as a viable alternative to gas-powered transportation. Their aim is to inject fun into the equation, resulting in the creation of this rugged, lightweight electric bike that resembles a cross between a mountain bike and an electric motorcycle. While it looks similar to the CAKE Kalk, the Colibri M22 has a nifty secret.

Designed for urban-dwellers, the M22’s compact size allows it to fit into tight spaces such as apartments and office buildings. The bike’s folding frame allows the rear shock to be detached from the swingarm, and the swingarm folds outward towards the bike’s belly. This design ensures that the M22 fits in most European elevators, allowing you to take it up to your apartment or office space.

To be an effective urban mobility device, the M22 also needs to be lightweight, weighing no more than 30 kilograms without the battery installed. This weight puts it on par with some of the larger e-bikes currently available in the market. The M22 also comes with two riding modes: a city mode that makes it street-legal via a B license in Europe, and an off-road mode that the company explicitly states should only be used off-road.

The Colibri M22 is powered by a 3-kilowatt (4-horsepower) hub motor. In road mode, the bike’s speed is limited to 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour), while off-road mode boosts the power to 16 kilowatts (21 horsepower) and allows you to reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour (56 miles per hour). It’s important to note that off-road mode isn’t legal for street use.

The M22’s battery consists of three modular batteries housed between the rider’s legs. Each battery can be used individually or simultaneously, depending on whether you’re looking to maximize range or minimize weight. Together, the three batteries promise a range of up to 200 kilometers (125 miles) on a single charge. Additionally, all three batteries can be charged simultaneously in about two hours.

The Colibri M22 is an exciting addition to the world of electric two-wheelers. Its compact size, lightweight design, and range of riding modes make it an excellent option for city-dwellers looking for a fun and efficient mode of transportation.
