CleverSolutions has launched CleverSolutions Autonomous, a standalone company focused on operating autonomous vehicle fleets for public transport operators, transit authorities and private mobility providers.
The Berlin-based company said the new business will support organizations deploying autonomous vehicles by managing day-to-day fleet operations, allowing customers to use self-driving technology without establishing their own operational control centers.
The launch is supported by a funding round led by German bus operators Autobus Oberbayern and Geldhauser Linien- und Reiseverkehr.
Focus on Fleet Operations
CleverSolutions Autonomous will concentrate on operational management rather than vehicle manufacturing or autonomous driving software development.
The company said its services will include fleet monitoring, operational coordination, maintenance management and control-center functions for autonomous vehicle deployments.
Founder Bruno Ginnuth said the company aims to build on its experience operating mobility services.
“The car comes from Germany. The software is from Silicon Valley. But the largest share of value creation in autonomous mobility happens neither in the factory nor in the lab, it happens in day-to-day operations, in the control center, in the daily responsibility for the fleet. That’s the gap we identified, and it’s where we want to bring in our more than 15 years of experience in mobility with CleverSolutions Autonomous.”
Built on On-Demand Mobility Experience
The company said the new business draws on operational experience gained through CleverShuttle, one of Germany’s early on-demand mobility services.
According to CleverSolutions, it has worked with public transport operators to manage more than 30 on-demand mobility services across Germany, developing operational systems that will now be applied to autonomous vehicle fleets.
Bus Operators Back Expansion
The funding round was led by Autobus Oberbayern and Geldhauser Linien- und Reiseverkehr, two companies with long-standing operations in Germany’s public transport sector.
Nico Schoenecker, managing director of Autobus Oberbayern, said operational expertise would be important as autonomous vehicles enter commercial service.
“We’ve been moving people for more than 135 years, and we’ve always been early adopters of new technology, from the combustion engine to electrification. Autonomous vehicles are the next step. We’re investing in CleverSolutions Autonomous because operational expertise isn’t something you can buy off the shelf.”
Martin Geldhauser, managing director of the Geldhauser Group, said the investment reflects the company’s long-term approach to mobility.
“We think in long time horizons. Autonomous mobility will transform transportation. We want to shape this transformation together with a partner who understands how day-to-day operations really work.”
CleverSolutions Autonomous said it intends to serve transit agencies, municipalities and private mobility providers seeking operational support as autonomous vehicle deployments expand.
