The Chinese investor ADM Group has finalized an agreement in Pakistan with Malik Enterprises and Indus Valley to develop 3,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide. This initiative involves a significant investment of $90 million by ADM Group in charging infrastructure, while Indus Valley will provide the necessary land. Malik Enterprises is tasked with the installation and licensing processes.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh, CEO of Malik Enterprises, indicated that approximately 1,000 stations will be established in Karachi and throughout Sindh, while 1,500 stations are planned for Punjab. The remaining 750 stations will cater to electric vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In addition to the charging stations, ADM Group intends to invest $250 million in the manufacturing of electric vehicles in Pakistan. The company’s plans regarding the brand under which these vehicles will be produced remain uncertain, as ADM has not previously ventured into automotive manufacturing. It is possible that they may operate as a contract manufacturer or facilitate the establishment of a factory for an existing automaker.
The entrance of ADM Group into the Pakistani market comes as electric vehicle giant BYD also plans to initiate electric car production in the country, with operations expected to begin by 2026, presenting strong competition for ADM.
