Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer JiYue has introduced its latest offering, the JiYue 07 electric sedan, following its recognition with the 2023 German Red Dot and iF design awards. The new fastback is set to enter the competitive market against Tesla’s Model 3, sharing the platform with Volvo’s EX90 and EX30 models.
Established in 2021 as a joint venture between Baidu and Geely, JiYue underwent restructuring, with Geely, the parent company of Volvo, Polestar, and ZEEKR, taking majority ownership. Baidu contributes expertise in software, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and connectivity. The brand launched its inaugural EV, the JiYue 01, in October, featuring Baidu’s Level 4 autonomous driving suite.
Riding on Geely’s SEA platform, shared with various models like the Volvo EX30, EX90, Polestar 4, and ZEEKR 009, the JiYue 01 offers two battery options, providing a range of up to 720 km with the larger battery. Now, JiYue aims to expand its lineup with the JiYue 07 electric sedan, positioned to rival Tesla’s Model 3.
The JiYue 07, based on the Jidu Robo-02 concept, retains the concept’s sleek design, characterized by strong wheel arches and a low-slung silhouette. Noteworthy features include Y-shaped headlights, a spacious glass roof, and a single taillight bar at the rear. Sharing the SEA platform with its predecessor, the JiYue 07 is likely to offer battery options of 75 kWh and 100 kWh, although specific range details are yet to be confirmed.
Scheduled for launch in mid-2024, the JiYue 07 is poised to compete in the Chinese market’s “7 series,” targeting vehicles below flagship models. As JiYue expands its portfolio, the electric sedan aims to capture market attention and contribute to the evolving landscape of electric mobility in China.
