Chery Group has surpassed 20 million cumulative global vehicle sales, marking another milestone for China’s automotive industry as the company continues to expand its international footprint through record exports and overseas manufacturing.

Chery Reaches 20 Million Sales Milestone

The company said its 20 millionth vehicle is the Fulwin A9, an all-electric sedan launched on Saturday.

The model shares its name with Chery’s first vehicle, introduced in 1997, which also became the company’s first export model for overseas markets.

Founded in 1997, Chery became the first Chinese automotive brand to exceed one million cumulative vehicle sales in 2007.

Today, the group operates several vehicle brands, including Chery, Exeed, Fulwin, iCar and Jetour, with a presence in more than 130 countries and regions.

Record Export Performance

International markets continue to drive Chery’s growth.

The company exported 191,062 vehicles in June, setting a new monthly export record for a Chinese automaker for the fourth consecutive month.

According to the company, this equates to one Chery vehicle being exported every 17 seconds.

Chery Group Reports Strong Q1 Sales as Exports and EV Growth Accelerate

By the end of June, Chery had accumulated more than 19.88 million customers worldwide, including 6.78 million outside China, representing approximately 35% of its global customer base.

The automaker also maintained its position as China’s largest exporter of domestically branded passenger vehicles for the 23rd consecutive year.

Europe Emerges as a Key Growth Market

Europe has become one of Chery’s fastest-growing regions.

The company sold approximately 174,000 vehicles across Europe during the first six months of the year, an increase of more than 212% compared with the same period a year earlier.

In the United Kingdom, Chery said it ranked among the country’s top two automotive brands for new vehicle sales over four consecutive months.

The company also reported that the Jaecoo 7 became the best-selling vehicle model during one month of the reporting period.

Expanding Local Manufacturing

Chery continues to strengthen its international manufacturing network through localized production.

Earlier this month, the company announced plans to restart the former Nissan vehicle assembly plant in Rosslyn, South Africa, preserving all 692 existing jobs after acquiring the facility.

In Spain, Chery partnered with EV Motors in 2024 to revive the Ebro automotive brand, creating more than 1,000 jobs as part of the initiative.

Domestic Growth Moderates

While overseas demand continues to accelerate, domestic growth has been more modest.

Chery sold 1,357,533 vehicles during the first half of the year, representing year-over-year growth of 7.7%.

The company now employs approximately 150,000 people globally, including more than 20,000 employees outside China, reflecting its continued expansion into international markets.
