Chery Automobile said it is expected to reach a cumulative total of 5 million exported vehicles later this month, which would mark a first for a Chinese carmaker.
The company made the announcement at the Hong Kong auto show on Wednesday, adding that it exported approximately 440,000 vehicles between January and May this year. Chery has been the leading Chinese-brand passenger vehicle exporter for 22 consecutive years and currently operates in nearly 120 countries and regions.
According to data compiled by CnEVPost, Chery exported 100,737 units in May, the second time this year its monthly exports surpassed 100,000. Total exports from January to May reached 443,940 units, a 1.99% increase compared with the same period last year.
At the Hong Kong show, Chery displayed 12 models under its various brands, including Chery, Exeed, Jetour, iCAR, Luxeed, and Omoda & Jaecoo. The lineup featured battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).
Following its official entry into the Hong Kong market, the company plans to introduce the electric Omoda 5 and Jaecoo 6, as well as the hybrid Jaecoo 7.
Chery reported total vehicle sales of 2.6 million units in 2024, with annual revenue exceeding RMB 480 billion ($67 billion), according to figures released on January 1. Its new energy vehicle sales rose 232.7% year-on-year to 583,569 units, while total exports for 2024 grew 21.4% to 1.14 million units.
