Electric vehicle infrastructure company ChargePoint has introduced a new AC charging platform designed to significantly enhance EV charging capabilities through innovations such as bi-directional Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) support and charging speeds twice as fast as standard AC units.
The new architecture, intended for commercial, residential, and fleet applications in North America and Europe, includes features like dynamic load balancing, solar and smart home integration, and a charging speed of up to 19.2 kW. According to the company, this allows a typical EV battery to be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in approximately four hours.

At the core of the system is the Omni Port connector, a new solution aimed at universal compatibility. ChargePoint says it enables any EV to charge in any parking space regardless of connector type, eliminating the need for costly additional cables.
“ChargePoint’s next generation of EV chargers will be revolutionary, not evolutionary,” said Hossein Kazemi, Chief Technical Officer, Hardware at ChargePoint. “The architecture underpinning them enables highly anticipated technologies which will deliver a significantly better experience for station owners and the EV drivers who charge with them.”

ChargePoint’s new AC platform will comply with major regulatory standards, including MID and Eichrecht in Europe and ENERGY STAR® in the United States. The first products based on the architecture are expected to launch in Europe this summer, with a U.S. rollout planned by the end of 2025.
