ChargePoint is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in upstate New York, with five new fast-charging stations supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The charging sites will be located in Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley, accessible via the ChargePoint mobile app.

Expansion of Fast-Charging Network

While specific details on power output and charging bay availability were not disclosed, the initiative aligns with ChargePoint’s broader effort to enhance fast-charging accessibility. The company, which operates the largest EV charging network in the U.S., currently has over 48,000 charging stations, including approximately 1,675 fast-charging ports.

Public-Private Partnership for EV Growth

ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing charging infrastructure. “ChargePoint’s collaboration with NYSERDA demonstrates the critical role that public-private partnerships will continue to play in the buildout of charging infrastructure, particularly at the state level,” Wilmer stated. “When all types of institutions work together to defray costs, much-needed EV charging infrastructure can scale at an accelerated pace.”

NYSERDA’s Support for EV Infrastructure

NYSERDA’s Clean Transportation program provides funding to expand EV charging infrastructure across New York State, with a focus on equity and accessibility. The agency states that 50% of its funded fast-charging stations are located in disadvantaged communities, supporting the state’s clean energy goals.

The new ChargePoint stations are expected to help bolster charging accessibility for EV drivers in key transit corridors and rural areas, reinforcing New York’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
