German software provider chargecloud GmbH has partnered with Dutch payment technology company Payter to roll out AFIR-compliant credit card payment terminals for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Europe. The collaboration provides charge point operators (CPOs) with a unified, cloud-integrated platform that meets the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) requirements for ad hoc public charging payments.
The system connects Payter’s Apollo series payment terminals directly to chargecloud’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform via a cloud-to-cloud integration, eliminating the need for middleware. It supports credit and debit cards, as well as mobile wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. The setup is compatible with both new installations and retrofitted infrastructure, offering operators a straightforward path to compliance.

“Our goal is to reliably support charging infrastructure operators in the digitalization and expansion of their business models,” said Markus Bach, CEO of chargecloud GmbH. “With Payter, we are expanding our partner network with a practical and established solution for ad hoc payments.”
The partnership enables CPOs to access unified billing systems, centralized management tools, and transparent transaction data while meeting EU AFIR and German calibration law requirements. The integrated interface simplifies payment processes and enhances the user experience for EV drivers across Europe.

Remco Willemse, CEO of Payter, said the collaboration aligns closely with both companies’ missions. “At Payter, our mission has always been to make payments effortless. Partnering with chargecloud is a natural step for us, as we work to support the growth of Europe’s e-mobility sector,” he said.
The solution forms part of chargecloud’s broader marketplace ecosystem, which offers interoperable services such as fleet and load management, GHG quota processing, and AI-powered customer communication tools. All partner solutions are pre-tested for compatibility with chargecloud’s SaaS applications to ensure seamless operation within complex charging networks.
