CATL’s skateboard chassis business, Contemporary Amperex Intelligence Technology (Shanghai) Limited (CAIT-SH), has completed its first external funding round, raising more than RMB 2 billion ($280 million), local media outlet China Star Market reported on Thursday.
Following the funding, CAIT-SH achieved a valuation exceeding RMB 10 billion, making it the first unicorn in the smart chassis sector. Investors in the round included Boyu Capital, Guotai Junan Securities, BAIC Capital, Shanghai Science & Technology Venture Capital, and Fortera Capital, according to the report.

The proceeds will be primarily used for mass production of CATL’s Bedrock Chassis models and research and development of next-generation Bedrock Chassis technology, the report said. CAIT-SH, founded in 2021, specializes in battery-centric skateboard chassis products and technical services.
Previously a wholly-owned CATL subsidiary, the business introduced new investors in November 2023, though they were affiliated with CATL. The Bedrock Chassis, unveiled in December 2024, is designed to accelerate the shift toward modular and personalized automotive design.

CATL is the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, holding a 37.5% share of the global EV battery market from January to July 2025, according to South Korean market research firm SNE Research.
