CATL unveils new Qilin EV battery that capable delivering a range of 1,000 km

CATL, the Chinese electric vehicle battery giant, has launched the Qilin, the third generation of its cell-to-pack (CTP) battery technology which it claims can provide a range of 1,000 km.

Qilin, which CATL claims has a volume utilization efficiency of 72% and an energy density of up to 255 Wh/kg. This figure represents the highest integration rate worldwide so far.

The Qilin, named after a legendary creature in Chinese mythology, offers breakthroughs in core processes, algorithms, and materials and is claimed to have a range of 1,000 kilometers d.

Qilin incorporates liquid cooling to increase the heat transfer area fourfold, cutting thermal control time in half.

This cooling structure allows the battery to cool quickly in extreme conditions, helping to prevent abnormal thermal conduction between cells. Qilin batteries are claimed to be safer and last longer than many existing battery cells.

Qilin is claimed to be 13% more powerful than Tesla’s upcoming new 4680 battery technology, and has the longest range offered by any electric vehicle battery manufacturer.

Qilin will be mass-produced and hit the market in 2023. Li Auto and Hozon New Energy Automobile have signed to buy Qilin batteries for its vehicles.
