Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) has entered into a 10-year strategic partnership agreement with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Neta Auto.
The agreement, signed on May 24 in Shanghai, where Neta is headquartered, was attended by key figures including Robin Zeng, chairman and CEO of CATL; Fang Yunzhou, founder and chairman of Neta; and Zhang Yong, co-founder and CEO of Neta, according to press releases from both companies.
This partnership, effective from 2025 to 2034, designates CATL as Neta’s preferred partner for vehicle power batteries. CATL will supply Neta with competitive power battery products and services, solidifying their collaboration in various areas such as zero carbon initiatives, CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC), battery swap, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, battery recycling, and market development.
Neta emphasized that this partnership is a significant step towards transforming itself from “China’s Neta” to “the world’s Neta.” Their upcoming model, the Neta S shooting brake, set to launch in the second half of this year, will feature the CIIC chassis developed jointly by Neta and CATL, along with 800 V high-voltage fast-charging technology.
Neta Auto is the EV brand under Hozon Auto, established in October 2014. Their collaboration with CATL dates back to the launch of Neta’s first model, the N01, which featured CATL’s batteries. Despite the discontinuation of the N01, the partnership between CATL and Neta has endured, leading to this long-term strategic agreement.
CATL, the world’s largest EV battery maker with a global market share of 36.8 percent in 2023 according to SNE Research, has been actively fortifying its position against competitors such as CALB, Gotion High-tech, and Sunwoda. This partnership with Neta follows CATL’s previous strategic agreements, including collaborations with Nio and Volvo Cars, highlighting its commitment to advancing EV technology and market presence.
