CATL’s independent aftermarket brand Ning Service has introduced a Cell-to-Pack (CTP) battery repair service, marking its first anniversary amid growing challenges in after-sales care for new energy vehicles (NEVs) as the first wave leaves warranty coverage.
The move addresses the rising demand for high volumetric energy density batteries, which has accelerated adoption of CTP technology. While CTP integration improves performance, it also complicates repairs, leaving many battery packs in a “replace, don’t repair” cycle.
Industry data from the China Insurance Association shows the average parts-to-whole ratio for battery packs in 59 electric NEV models stands at 50.96%, meaning replacement costs can exceed 100,000 yuan ($13,750) for a 200,000 yuan ($27,500) vehicle.
Ning Service, which evolved from CATL’s after-sales unit founded in 2015, became an independent brand in 2024 and now operates over 1,100 outlets in 75 countries, including more than 800 in China. Its offerings span battery testing, maintenance, inspection, refurbishment, recycling, and reuse.
CATL plans to expand its aftermarket scope beyond vehicle inspection and repair to include charging and swapping services, as well as ventures in low-altitude aviation, marine applications, and zero-carbon infrastructure.
