CATL and Beijing Hyundai have announced an extension of their strategic partnership at Auto China, outlining plans to collaborate on electric vehicle (EV) projects in China. The partnership aims to equip new electric models from Beijing Hyundai with CATL batteries, showcasing a commitment to advancing EV technology and expanding their market presence.

The new agreement will see Beijing Hyundai introduce more than ten new models equipped with CATL’s latest battery technology, including “CTP and NP.” CTP, short for “Cell to Pack,” involves inserting battery cells directly into the battery housing without grouping them into modules first. This approach aims to increase the energy density at the system level, enhancing overall performance.

CATL’s “NP 2.0” technology, as explained on its website, focuses on developing a self-stabilizing battery system with gas-electric separation and active isolation. This technology enhances integration efficiency and safety for high-energy-density batteries, making it compatible with various chemical systems and voltage platforms. NP 2.0 technology is utilized in CATL’s Qilin battery, the company’s third-generation CTP.

CATL expressed confidence in leveraging its technological advantages to support Beijing Hyundai’s business growth in China. The partnership’s shared focus on product development is expected to yield high-quality automotive products, benefiting both companies.

Since initiating cooperation in 2017, Beijing Hyundai has launched several models equipped with CATL batteries, with sales exceeding 200,000 units. Beijing Hyundai, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Beijing Automotive Industrie Holding (the company behind BAIC), has been operating in China for 21 years, selling over twelve million vehicles during this time.
